A few questions...help! (20 characters)?

First off, what exactly is a fan mail address? And if you sent a letter or autograph request to that address would you actually get something back from the celebrity, or just a forgery from people who are paid to do that? Also, if I wanted a legit autograph or letter or something from Leonardo DiCaprio, how would I go about getting it? Thanks guys!!!
